Privacy Policy for Wikiaction
Our Philosophy on Privacy
Wikiaction is built on trust. Large-scale cooperation is only possible when every participant feels secure and respected. Our approach to privacy is simple: we only collect data that is strictly necessary for the platform to function, and we will never sell your personal data. Period. Your participation is an act of trust, and we are committed to honoring it.
In Short
- We Collect: Your name/username and email for your account. The information you make public on projects and actions you join. Anonymous usage data to improve the app.
- Your Public Profile: Your name/username is visible to other participants in a project you join. This is essential for trust and coordination.
- We DO NOT Collect: Precise location data, access to your contacts, or other non-essential data.
- We DO NOT Sell: Your data. Ever. Our model is not based on advertising or monetizing your information.
- You Control: You can edit your profile, manage notifications, and delete your account at any time.
1. Information We Collect
We collect three types of information:
a) Information You Provide Directly:
- Account Information: To create an account, we require a valid email address and a name or username that will be visible to others.
- Profile Information (Optional): You may choose to add more information to your profile, such as a short bio or skills. This is optional and helps others get to know you within the context of a project.
- Project and Action Content: All information you publish when creating a project or an action (title, description, etc.).
- Communications: Messages you exchange with other participants through Wikiaction’s internal messaging system.
b) Information About Your Participation (The Public Part):
- The core of Wikiaction is the transparency of commitment. When you commit to an action, your name/username will be visible to the other participants of that specific project. This is a fundamental principle so that everyone can see that the group is real and committed.
c) Information Collected Automatically:
- Usage Data: We collect anonymous and aggregated data about how you use the application (e.g., which features are most popular). This helps us improve Wikiaction and cannot be used to personally identify you.
- Technical Information: Basic information about your device (type, operating system) to help us fix bugs and ensure compatibility.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes only:
- To Operate Wikiaction: To manage your account, display projects, count commitments, and trigger actions when thresholds are met.
- To Connect You: To allow participants in the same project to see each other and communicate.
- To Communicate With You: To send you essential notifications (e.g., “The threshold for your action has been met!”). You can manage these notifications in your settings.
- To Improve and Protect the Platform: To analyze aggregated usage data to improve usability and to ensure security and moderate abusive content.
3. How Your Information Is Shared
- With Other Participants: As mentioned, your name/username and your commitment are visible within a project. This is the platform’s social contract.
- With No One Else: We do not share, rent, or sell any of your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
- Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request (e.g., a court order).
4. Your Rights and Choices
You remain in control of your data.
- Access and Edit: You can access and edit your profile information at any time.
- Data Deletion: You can request the deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by visiting [https://wikiaction.org/remove-data/] or contacting us. Upon deletion, your profile information will be erased. To preserve the integrity of completed projects, your commitments on past actions may be anonymized (e.g., showing “A former participant committed”) without identifying you.
- Notifications: You can choose which types of notifications you wish to receive in the app’s settings.
5. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously and use industry-standard technical and organizational measures (such as encryption and secure servers) to protect it. However, no system is 100% infallible, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Our Policy Towards Children
This section is crucial for Google Play compliance.
Target Audience and Age Limit: Wikiaction is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 12. To use Wikiaction, you must be at least 12 years old. This age limit is in place because the collaborative and commitment-based nature of our platform requires a level of understanding and legal capacity that we deem appropriate for users aged 12 and older.
No Knowing Collection of Children’s Data: We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 16.
Action Upon Discovery: If you are a parent or guardian and you believe that your child under 12 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take immediate and decisive steps to remove that information from our servers and delete the associated account.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we will provide prominent notice to you through the app or by email, giving you an opportunity to review the changes before they take effect.
8. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
